Christmas!!!
I've made shortbread. I've rented Elf. I've put up my christmas lights only to realize that they only cover an eighth of the distance I need them to, and then taken them back down. I am so fricking ready for Christmas to be here.
It really is a lot more fun with kids. My son is 3 this year and he's finally old enough where he remembers previous years and knows what all the decorations mean, so he's been running around yelling "baby christmas!" (Merry is a hard word, apparently, and all consonants he can't make get replaced with the letter b.) That enthusiasm, and knowing that what I do now is creating a really fun time for him and his sister, is making this year really magical.
Plus, we've kind of figured it out this year. I got most of my crochet/knit gifts done on time, and the ones I didn't are for family that won't miss them anyway. We planned out when to get the packages in the mail, and made an actual present budget. All our past holiday fuckups have informed our choices this year. I dunno. I'm really happy. The world is on fire, and extended family is drowning in drama and chaos, but for once in my adult life I have pulled it together to have a nice holiday in the middle of all the bad.
Closer to 30 than to 20 now, and life is getting good. Even when it's hard, it's good. I can't wait to be middle aged, and have some more shit figured out.
